Erkin Koray… Turkish destroyer


It should come as no surprise that a land with one foot firmly planted in both East and West would provide us with an artist who so deftly combined the popular music of both worlds. Widely credited as the Father of Turkish Rock, Erkin Koray has been performing, recording, and scaring young children (see photo) for over 5 decades now.

Today I am presenting three songs from "2", his second full length album that Wikipedia, in all its insightful glory, refers to as his most “ethnic”. These tracks represent the influences of traditional Turkish and North African sounds intertwined with the psychedelic fever that was traveling across the rest of Europe at the time.
